How to copy and use strikethrough text
- 01
Copy the complete value
Use the copy button above so the value is captured without its label, description or surrounding page text.
- 02
Paste it where you need it
Crossing out a word in a bio, a spreadsheet cell or any field without formatting.
- 03
Check the final result
Styled letters are not a font applied to ordinary text. Search, screen readers, copy operations and unsupported fonts may treat them differently, so keep essential information in standard lettering.
Where it comes from
Why these characters exist
Not a letter set at all. The text stays as ordinary letters and a combining long stroke overlay, U+0336, is inserted after each one; the mark is drawn through the character before it.
What the set is missing
Works on any character, since nothing is being substituted. That makes it the most universally applicable effect here and the only one that preserves the underlying spelling.
Before you paste it
Where strikethrough text break down
It roughly doubles the character count, which matters in a bio that caps at 150. Some fields normalise combining marks away on save, and the stroke can sit at the wrong height in fonts that do not position combining marks carefully. Because the letters are untouched, this is the one effect a screen reader still reads correctly.
You can convert your own text into this and every other set with the fancy text generator.
Common questions
Using strikethrough text
What is strikethrough text?
Ordinary letters each followed by a combining long stroke, so the line survives where markdown does not. Crossing out a word in a bio, a spreadsheet cell or any field without formatting.
How do I copy strikethrough text without breaking it?
Use the copy button so the whole value is captured, including the spaces, line breaks and less common characters that hold its shape together. Paste it as plain text: editors and chat apps that read Markdown can treat backslashes, underscores and asterisks as formatting and remove them, and auto-correct may replace straight quotes or collapse repeated spaces.
Will strikethrough text work everywhere?
Styled letters are not a font applied to ordinary text. Search, screen readers, copy operations and unsupported fonts may treat them differently, so keep essential information in standard lettering.
Can I customise strikethrough text after copying?
You can add a short label, repeat compatible symbols or trim the design to fit. Keep important spaces, line breaks and uncommon Unicode characters intact while editing.
