Why these characters exist
Mathematical Fraktur, from U+1D504. Blackletter is used in mathematics for Lie algebras and ideals, which is why a script associated with old German printing has a place in the standard.
What the set is missing
Five uppercase letters are reserved and come from Letterlike Symbols: C, H, I, R and Z. Everything else maps cleanly, and there are no fraktur digits.
