Glints
✧ ✦ ⋆ ✩
Four-pointed and small. ✦ is filled and brightest, ⋆ is smallest, ✧ is the default.
Glints, trails and ✧
Sparkle characters are texture, not objects. Where a star is a thing you can point at, a sparkle is a glint coming off something else, which is why these faces come out excited or enchanted instead of merely decorated.
(✧ᴗ✧)
Quick answer
(✧ᴗ✧) is the standard sparkle kaomoji — four-pointed glints replacing both eyes, meaning dazzled or full of anticipation. Sparkle characters (✧ ✦ ⋆ ✩) are small and four-pointed; star characters (★ ☆) are large and five-pointed. Sparkles work as eyes and trails because they suggest light; stars work as ornaments because they suggest an object.
Copy and paste
Every face is plain text. Tap one to copy it, then paste it wherever you are typing — it travels as ordinary characters, not as an image.

How they are built
Kaomoji are assembled rather than drawn. Once you can see the components, you can adjust any face on this page instead of hunting for a different one.
✧ ✦ ⋆ ✩
Four-pointed and small. ✦ is filled and brightest, ⋆ is smallest, ✧ is the default.
。 ゚ ˚ ₊ · *
Scattered marks with no shape of their own. Used in trails, where the eye takes them for light and stops seeing characters.
*:・゚✧ ⋆。° 。・゚✧
Several marks in a row leading away from the face. They imply movement, which a single glint does not.

As eyes the face is dazzled; aside it decorates the message; framing it, the whole face is lit.
Before you paste
Markdown and rich-text editors treat backslashes, underscores and asterisks as formatting. Sparkle trails are the most affected, because most of them begin with an asterisk.
✧ and ✦ are Dingbats characters that take the colour of the surrounding text. ✨ is an emoji with its own artwork, so it will always look like a separate object dropped beside the face.
A trail on one side gives you motion. Mirror it on both sides and you get a frame instead, which is calmer, and usually not the effect people came for.

Questions
(✧ᴗ✧) is the standard — four-pointed glints in place of both eyes, meaning dazzled, impressed or full of anticipation. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧, which throws a trail of sparkles, is more famous but is really a kawaii face using sparkle as decoration.
Sparkles (✧ ✦ ⋆ ✩) are small and four-pointed and read as light glinting off something. Stars (★ ☆) are large and five-pointed and read as objects. That is why sparkles work as eyes and trails, while stars work better as ornaments worn beside the face.
String several small marks together leading away from the face — *:・゚✧ and ⋆。°✩ are the two common patterns. The individual characters carry no meaning; the effect comes from the sequence thinning out, which the eye takes as light trailing off.
No. ✧ and ✦ are plain text characters that take the colour of whatever they are written in, so they blend into the face. ✨ is an emoji drawn in colour by each platform, so it always sits beside the kaomoji as a separate object instead of joining it.
